Dr. Mohammed Yassin, MD, PhD, MBA

Dr. Mohamed H. Yassin, MD, PhD, MBA, is a distinguished physicianâscientist and healthcare epidemiologist whose work spans infection prevention, hospital epidemiology, endoscope reprocessing, and device-related infections. He serves as Professor of Medicine, Infectious Diseases & Microbiology at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and is the Medical Director of Infection Prevention at UPMC Mercy (Pittsburgh, PA).
With more than 15 years in the field of infection prevention and hospital epidemiology, Dr. Yassin has developed and led programs focused on reducing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) across acute care settings. His research interests include endoscopic processing and microbiological evaluation of scopes, surveillance for multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs), Legionella prevention in hospital water systems, ventilator-associated pneumonia, and the cost-effectiveness of infection control measures.
Dr. Yassin has published more than sixty manuscripts and over 120 scientific abstracts, in addition to multiple book chapters and presentations at national and international forums. Notably, he co-authored research recognized with the William A. Rutala, PhD, MPH, CIC Abstract Award at the 2023 Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) Conference for work on endoscope dryness following automated reprocessing. Prior to his current roles, Dr. Yassin earned his medical degree at Cairo University, completed his residency at Hurley Medical Center (Michigan State University) and his Infectious Diseases fellowship at Case Western Reserve University.
At Ideate Medical, Dr. Yassin serves as Clinical Advisor, where he leverages his deep expertise in endoscope reprocessing, infection prevention strategy, and epidemiologic research to guide product development, regulatory readiness, and clinical evidence generation for next-generation sterilization technologies.
